Oude Tonge to De Batterij marina Willemstad 06.08.16

Volkerak LockWe left Oude Tonge after stocking up with French wine in plastic bottles (good on a boat) for €2 a bottle from Aldi. We went with tide and wind to Willemstad (for a change) via the huge Volkerak lock, not too bad this time, only a 30 minute wait.

Willemstad is a picturesque harbour and very popular with tourists. For more info see a previous post here. As it was a Saturday night we decided to go into the marina next door, where fellow members of Area15 moor permanently, Mike & Sue from “Scallywag”.

Track Oud Tonge to WillemstadThe De Batterij marina is good, if a little bit tight at the entrance. Also, they are box berths which can be tricky to get into. It cost us €29 for the night. It has a washing machine and drier at €4 each, also has wifi.

We ate out at the Frascati Restaurant in town with Mike, Sue and their son Ryan. Good food but you need a lot of time as they charge €32 per person and it’s only small bites. You can only order 2 per person each time but you can order as many times as you want. Service on a Saturday night was not quick, but the staff are nice and bring out blankets if you’re cold!. Top tip, as soon as you have made one choice, fill out the card for your next choice, otherwise you don’t get to eat much.

The town is definitely worth a visit.
